Attorney Richard Blevins has practiced law since 2000. He specializes in the defense of individuals charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI). He has successfully handled thousands of DUI cases over his career. He has the knowledge and skills to look at your case and prepare the best defense. He has worked all aspects of DUI cases. He was a former law enforcement officer and prosecutor.
Attorney Richard Blevins has been involved in the criminal justice field since 1987. He has had the following titles and positions over the years: U.S. Army Military Police patrolman; MP Traffic Accident Investigator; MP Investigator; Jailer; Police Officer; Deputy Sheriff, DARE Officer; Detective, Patrol Supervisor; Assistant Solicitor General; and Assistant District Attorney.
In 1987, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Military Police Corps. They stationed him in Berlin, Germany, and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Attorney Blevins was in Berlin when the Berlin Wall came down in 1989. While in the Army, he served as a patrolman, traffic accident investigator, and military police investigator. He completed Basic Training, the U.S. Army Basic Military Police School, U.S. Army M.P. Investigator School, the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, and Air Assault School.
While in Berlin, he worked at a Combined Police Station with the German Police. He also worked with the British MPs and French National Police. He received the Army Accommodation Medal (1 oak leaf); the Army Achievement Medal (2 oak leaf clusters); Army of Occupation Medal; Overseas Ribbon, Army Superior Unit Award; Good Conduct Medal; Army Service Ribbon; German Infantry Badge (Bronze); National Defense Medal; NCO Achievement ribbon; Air Assault badge; and German Marksmanship (Silver). Attorney Blevins was honorably discharged from the Army in 1992 as a Sergeant.
In 1993, Attorney Blevins began his civilian law enforcement career. He graduated third in his class at the DeKalb Police Academy. He worked for the DeKalb County Police Department in the South Precinct. He then worked for the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. While at the Baldwin Co. Sheriff’s Office, he served as a DARE officer, patrolman, jailer, patrol supervisor, and detective. Attorney Blevins received his Basic and Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certification. He was also state certified in field sobriety tests.
While in law enforcement with the U.S. Army and in Georgia as a civilian law enforcement officer, Attorney Blevins made many arrests for DUI. He performed field sobriety tests on the roadside and administered the intoxilyzer for breath tests. They also required him to testify in court.
In 1997, Attorney Blevins went to law school. In 2000, he began his legal career with the Cobb County Solicitor’s Office. While there, he prosecuted DUI cases. He then worked as an Assistant District Attorney at the Cobb District Attorney’s Office prosecuting felony cases. In 2004, he began defending individuals charged with DUI.
